Peacocks can totally fly. If a peacock flies into your yard and lands in the area of a badminton game, he wins the game - whether he wants the accomplishment or not. When he wins, you feed him.
Perfect Serve shows a fence in the background, leaning and with missing boards, with overflowing vegetation pressing through the fence gaps from the other side. Occasionally, the leaning fence is propped up by posts – a temporary fix. Although independent of the plant pressure on the fence, the sweeping and dramatic entry of the peacock as he flies into the badminton area feels to be in sympathy with the general overflow of flora and fauna from one yard towards the other.
The large scale of this work, commitment to the color green and the badminton net low in the foreground invites the viewer to feel more involved than usual in the atmosphere. Issues of foreground, middle ground, background are amplified into a full spectrum thesis of space, time and entitlement.
